SPL including all its subsidiaries are committed to Social Responsibility and Ethical Behavior. Our goal with our customers and our suppliers is not only to provide quality products but also to maintain the highest level of customer care and satisfaction.
To minimize impact on the environment, SPL has implemented measures to achieve industry environmental ISO 14001 compliance covering all environmental aspects. SPL has introduced policies that guarantee a social and environmental responsible practice. We promote that with the right policies and guidelines, we can all contribute to minimize the impact in the environment.
Our commitment towards Social Responsibility can be classified in areas such as Energy Conservation, Waste Management, Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction, Workplace Safety and Health.
Recently, SPL has implemented various measures to improve energy conservation, reduce costs and gain control over energy use in our business in accordance with the guidelines as mandated by ISO 14001. By investing in new technologies and enforcing company energy saving guidelines, we have reduced our energy consumption by 29% in 2013 compared to 2012. For the year 2014 we expect to achieve a reduction in power usage of an additional 5% versus 2013.
In 2013, SPL developed a waste management policy which consists of two major categories: Waste Prevention/Source Reduction and Re-use & Recycling. The implementation of these policies has allowed us to obtain recycling rates up to 60% of our waste. Our goal is to increase the percentage of recycled material by an additional 10% by end of 2014.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions:
As result of our continued commitment to waste reduction and recycling, our company achieved a reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emission (GHG) equivalent to 5.0 Metric Tons of CO2 in 2013 vs 2012. SPL follows the rules, regulations and advise of the US Environmental Protection Agency and we have set the GHG reduction target of an additional 20% equivalent to 1.0 Metric Ton of CO2 for the year 2014.
Environmental Penalties & Fines:
Enforcement of environmental laws is important to protect human health and the environment. SPL is proud to report that we have been in compliance since inception and have not been exposed to citations, penalties or fines. In the unlikely event of any environmental citations, penalties or fines, we shall publish these on our website in a timely manner.
Workplace Health & Safety:
SPL recognizes that as an employer, it has the responsibility to provide a safe and healthy workplace and enforces that our staff and workforce are entitled to working conditions that do not pose any risk of harm.
By adopting general standards like the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition (EICC) and its Code of Conduct (CoC), SPL is constantly reviewing internal processes trying to eliminate or reduce potential safety hazards by making changes in working conditions if any.
The joint work of the management and employees in this matter has allowed us to proudly maintain a zero rate work-related injuries and illnesses since established on 1998.
